About this piece
I drew and coloured this cheerful hippo family as a special welcome-home gift for my nephew Jayden. It carries a simple message from me: stay strong, with lots of love from Uncle Ryan. Two big hippos and three little ones gather in blue water beneath a golden sunset. The laughing youngster in the middle, the pink smiles and the little hearts give the scene its warmth, while reeds, a water lily and a rocky waterfall fill out their colourful world. Created with pencil, fineliner and coloured pencils. This is a photograph of my finished drawing, straightened, cropped and gently brightened using ordinary photo adjustments. No generative AI was used to redraw the artwork in this image.
